May 2013 - Jr. High Youth Group

So I have youth group once a month with LOTS of other Jr. High kids. Like 40. Each month we do something different. To help people, just have fun, and play games. This month my mom and dad did it. Well, with help from Mr. D and Mrs. T. It was SO much fun!
Some of the older boys sat around and made bracelets INSTEAD of playing games. But others played. OH! I didn’t even tell you WHAT our youth group was about!
FRIENDSHIP
So we play outside with Indonesians/Papuans just about every day. SO we invited the Indonesians/Papuans to come play with “banyak teman-teman” (lots of friends). And then we told the normal Youth Group kids to come play games with us and the Indonesian/Papuans. We would play soccer and some other games.
The kids were supposed to come and we would exchange names, play games, and ‘hang-out’. It was pretty cool. It was not just ‘pretty cool’ it was AWESOME!! HERE ARE SOME PICTURES OF WHAT WE DID!!
BUT FIRST, I’m going to tell a little story about what happened just a little before Youth Group started (like, an hour before)
SO the night before my Korean friend, Sue, spent the night. She is in 6th grade and is TOTALLY FUNNY! The next day was a barang sale at the International school here (‘barang’ means ‘stuff’:) SO we went there and then near the end, when we were about to leave, Sue said, “Can we bring Ruth?” Ruth is another Korean 6th grader. My mom said yes and Ruth’s mom said yes so she came home with us. Which was PERFECT! BECAUSE…
…I had this idea TO do Water Balloons. Who doesn’t like Water Balloons? Maybe someone. So at 2:25 pm, Ruth, Sue, and I started filling them and tying them. Sue was the only one of us that could TIE balloons so she got stuck with that job while Ruth and I filled. THEN, Mr. D, Mrs. T, and their load (they brought everyone who lived down their road) arrived. Sue, Ruth and I decided to trust Chaia, the only girl on the bus. SHE COULD TIE BALLOONS! Sue was SOOO happy. Then Alex arrived and she helped. Ok, we got REALLY WET. Especially Ruth. BUT IT WAS AWESOME!

Fun picture of all of us- Sue, Ruth, me

Same thing

Girls starting their bracelets

Messin' around

'Hangin' out

The Indonesian girls (and boy) doing bracelets

Doing our 'pas-the-water-balloon-to-your-partner'
This was what we did with the water balloons, BTW, every expat with an Indonesian/Papuan

Whoops!

"GET ANOTHER ONE!"

Getting another water balloon

Trying to keep the balloons from dropping

People waiting to get a water balloon before the're all gone!

It turned into a water balloon fight, well, all except the 2 kids nearest the bushes

Listening to Mr. D, he did our devotion
This was a fun-filled day for everyone! Hope you enjoy these pictures!

PRAY

My mom is going to see if she can find Gilang and his family today! She heard the siren this morning. The siren is for people that died. Pray that he will still be alive!

I am Older..... A LITTLE Older

I have learned to like my name, Abrielle Lindsay. Not just my middle name, Lindsay. That is why at the end of my posts now I always put 'Abrielle Lindsay' instead of just 'Lindsay'. So I've grown to like it. In like, 1 month. ;) This is a short little post about what I just told you.

Haha,
  ABRIELLE LINDSAY

Please Pray...

Monday....

We were playing outside like we do. We were playing with Indonesians. Suddenly, my friends, Lisa (10), Nur (12?), and Gabbie (11) started leaving. Well, according to another friend of mine, Fedel (9), they didn't like being with a LOT of other kids, which there was a HUGE group comin' our way. But since they saw my 3 friends leave they thought it was time to go home so they headed that way. But, one little boy, Gilang, just as they were crossing the road, Gilang was hit by a motorcycle. The motorcycle dude wasn't going very very fast. About normal. Gilang laid there a little stiff. Nur raced over and started to pick him up... It ends up that this guy from somewhere made 'dude' get back on the motorcycle and take him and Gilang to Gilang house.
     I was scared.
Yesterday, (my Tuesday) not ONE SINGLE KID CAME TO PLAY.
Today, however, 4 kids came to play!! Fion, the ever faithful one, said that Gilang is at his house. He is ok. Not dead. Whew..... But my mom asked, "Can he come play?" A different kid (I admit, I forgot his name :/) said "Tidak bisa." Translation, "Cannot." THEN my mom said, "Can he walk?" (Just so ya'll know, my mom is also talking in Indonesian, I just don't know how to write it. ;) ) And the kid said, "Belum," Translation, "Not yet."
But they said he will be able to.
So, HOORAY!! He is alive!! And not dead!! But his family is Islam.

SO, all that to say please pray for these things:

  • That Gilang will live and be able to run and play again sometime soon.
  •  That Gilang's family will become Christians through this insistence.

Thx! And this was very scary because I watched the WHOLE thing. None of my siblings saw it. Very scary.

2 Years?

April 21st, 2013.

This date would be our 2 year anniversary in Indonesia! No, not Papua.

Would you like to hear what my idea was to do?

Well, if you do or do not, I'm tellin' you ;)

For the first 11 days in Indonesia, we had Mr. C and Mr. Z with us. They were a BIG help and we liked them a lot, well, actually we still do. Of course ;). In fact, Addie (Adelaide) is Mr. Z's daughter. So my idea was to invite them to go out to eat with us (their families too)! It worked!! We ate at a a pizza place. Yeah, no Indonesian. ;) It was really fun.

BUT, do you want to see what we found IN OUR LIVING ROOM that morning??? You probably don't  but that won't stop me. ;) Ok, you might.

A BABY BAT!!!!

I have to admit, it's pretty cute.
It ended up outside (my dad put it there:)

Enjoy these lovely sights I have put up today!

Would you like to see/LIVE with our loverly friends?

NO, YOU WOULD NOT.

Our 'loverly' friends are...... Shrews, Mice, Rats, Cockroaches, Bats, and Geckos.

Ok, the geckos, not soooo bad, everything else? YUCK!

Sorry, no pictures, that I could find anyway, of mice, rats and cockroaches. Maybe that's good?

Take look!

Nice

See the tail?

How would you feel if.....

IF, how would you feel IF?

IF......

1) YOU saw a shrew/mouse/RAT RUN ACROSS the floor??
2) YOU were in a ALL day power-outage and the generator being turned off in the night which means you only get 3 hours of sleep throughout the ENTIRE night??
3) It took 4 HOURS to get to a 1 hour place??
4) YOU lost Internet for a LONG time??
5) YOU couldn't bake something because Wal-mart is not right around the corner??

These are few of the VERY many things that happen here. All the time.

Helping Out

Last Sunday, I helped out in Nursery. And last Sunday, I helped out later that night. It was very funny. Well, this little boy was. I already knew him, but I didn't know him like this. First he brought me book after book after book. But then another little girl asked if I could read some books to her. The little boy stayed around awhile but then he went of and started playing, btw, his name is David. But then later David's little brother came up to me and just looked at me. Which is kind of normal since we know his family. Soon he ran off. Then David comes to me and has these lips. Well, I'm talking about the Mr. Potato's lips, not a person's lips. And so, POOF, a game was started. I would try to make it 'go-away-and-never-come-back' but David kept finding it and bringing it back to me. But soon, he wanted to get it from me. So if he found it 'first' and I wasn't around to 'get-it-first-so-I-could-hide-it-again' it was his turn.
He said, "Now you have to hide your eyes so I can go hide it."
SO I would close my eyes or at least look down if I was holding one of the little kids. Then he would come and tell me to find it. He, most of the time, would hide it in the same place. Once I found it right after I started and he said,
"No, you have to look everywhere first and then find it." SO I 'pretended to look everywhere and THEN 'find' it.
But soon, David started a whole NEW game. It had NOTHIN' to do with 'you-hide-somethin'-and-I'll-go-find-it'. It was 'I'm-a-bear-so-you-better-watch-out' kind of game. He chased me, I didn't run, he did, since he's only, maybe, 3. But if he caught me, he'd wrap his arms around me knees and WOULD NOT let go. Well, finally he did, but there wasn't much I could do to keep him from just RE-WRAPING his arms around my knees.
Soon his dad came to get him and his little brother. But David was SOOO happy he had been the bear.
He kept saying, "Daddy, I was a bear," and then pointing at me he said. "And I got her." Which made Adelaide and me laugh (yes, Addie was there).

That night we played the 'lip' game again. But it was a little harder because there was this other little boy that kept following me and wanted me to pick him up. Which was okay with me. David just wanted me to "run" around.

I kind of expect the same today. It would probably be amazing if he didn't ask me to play the 'lip-game'. I will put in a comment if he DID want to play it or if he DOESN'T ask to play it.

        Have a GREAT Sunday!
